The department conducts research in the following areas
- postoperative management of patients with congenital heart disease with high pulmonary hypertension;
- modern methods of postoperative multimodal analgesia in patients after extended reconstructive surgeries on the chest and abdominal organs;
- the use of respiratory therapy in patients with acute lung injury (severe pneumonia, ARDS, compartment syndrome, etc.);
- modern protocols of early nutritional support
(enteral and parenteral nutrition) in intensive care;
- principles of neuroprotection in patients with acute cerebrovascular accidents;
- modern protocols of postoperative management of patients after liver and kidney transplantation;
- rational antibiotic prophylaxis in surgical patients and antibacterial therapy for nosocomial and hospital-acquired infections;
- protocols for various respiratory support modes in the treatment of ARDS using modern ventilators have been developed.
The department's staff participates in scientific conferences held in countries near and far abroad.
The intensive care and resuscitation department is designed for 20 regular beds and is equipped with all the necessary specialized equipment, an emergency life support system.
The main task of the department is to implement a set of measures to restore and maintain the impaired functions of vital organs and systems that have arisen as a result of disease, injury, surgery and other causes (acute cardiovascular failure, acute respiratory failure, all types of shock).
Highly professional training of the staff and technical equipment of the department allows for intensive treatment after the most complex and unique surgeries, to provide timely qualified resuscitation care to about 4,000 patients per year.
Over many years, the team of the department has developed and introduced into clinical practice the basic principles of patient care after liver and kidney transplantation, reconstructive surgeries on the heart, trachea, bronchi, esophagus, gastrointestinal tract, liver, bile ducts, pancreas, aorta and its branches. At present, along with the development of new surgical technologies, the principles of patient management in the postoperative period are constantly being improved.
The department uses modern technologies used in resuscitation and intensive care of patients with surgical and therapeutic profiles. Thanks to the expanding capabilities of clinical, laboratory and functional diagnostics, timely detection and correction of early complications of the postoperative period is ensured. Along with the standard set of monitoring equipment, the following diagnostic and therapeutic methods can be used in the resuscitation and intensive care department: a multimodal analgesia scheme, advanced technologies of intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation in patients with coronary heart disease, advanced technologies of prolonged artificial ventilation of the lungs in patients with cardiac surgery and thoracoabdominal pathology complicated by acute respiratory distress have been introduced into practice.
