The First Day of the Joint Surgical Program: Living-Donor Liver Transplantation
Despite it being Sunday, the team at the V. Vakhidov Center of Surgery, together with colleagues from China’s Renji Hospital, has begun the first operation under the international liver transplantation program.
The first patient is 42-year-old D. Kimsanova from Namangan Region, who is suffering from severe liver disease. Her 19-year-old son, S. Abdakimov, is serving as the donor, having voluntarily decided to donate part of his liver to save his mother’s life.
Since early morning, the operating rooms have been busy with activity. The surgical and anesthesiology teams from both countries have completed the necessary preparations and begun the planned stages of the operation.
Preparations are proceeding as planned, and the teams are ready for the key stage — transplantation of the donated liver segment into the recipient.
A challenging and highly responsible task lies ahead, requiring coordinated efforts from all specialists. This joint operation will mark an important practical milestone in the exchange of expertise and the adoption of modern liver transplantation techniques.
